My book, Structured Negotiation, a Winning Alternative to Lawsuits (2d ed 2021) is now available in Spanish thanks to translation done by The Collaborative Law Association of the Basque Country (Asociación de Derecho Colaborativo de Euskadi). The Spanish edition is titled Negociación Estructurada: Una alternativa ganadora a los Tribunales. It will be officially announced on June 23 at a hybrid gathering in Vitoria-Gasteiz Spain and online. Zoom registration link here. The image at the top of this post is the flyer in Spanish for the event.
I am grateful to the Association and its leadership who have believed in the power of Structured Negotiation to resolve legal claims and advance accessibility for many years. In 2019 I presented a Workshop in Vitoria Spain titled Collaborative Tools for Digital Inclusion: Let’s make the web available to everyone! And In 2020 I shared Structured Negotiation stories and strategies virtually at the organization’s annual Congress. Its then-President Susana Sucunza wrote a Foreword, along with Haben Girma, for the 2d edition of the book published in 2021.
And the Association’s Technical Secretariat Marta Ruiz wrote one of the testimonials published in the front of both the English and Spanish editions:
Lainey’s book has great value to us in Basque Country, Spain. It presents the Structured Negotiation methodology showing a multitude of cases in which it has been successful. Structured Negotiation is a brilliant method that sets aside confrontation in relationships and moves us towards a peaceful coexistence.
Now, in 2025, I’m excited for a gathering next week to announce the Spanish edition organized by Marta and the Association. I’ll be appearing virtually to talk about the book along with Marta, Association president Jon Oscoz, and past president Susana Sucunza.
Representatives of the Basque Government will be there too.
Basque Country officially recognizes Structured Negotiation in its Accessibility Plan
I’m honored that the Justice and Housing Directors of Basque Government (Chema Bastos and Pablo Garcia) will be part of the presentation of the Spanish Edition of my book. The Government has included Structured Negotiation in its Universal Accessibility Strategy (Estrategia Vasca para la Accesibilidad Universal).
As I write about in the book, the full 160 page document lays out a plan of action for accessibility in urban spaces, public buildings, workplaces, homes, and “non-physical environments to open new horizons of digital communication.” In the section entitled “action items” Structured Negotiation is specifically mentioned:
Find collaborative formulas for agreement and solution to conflicts generated between Parties: It is necessary to anticipate possible disagreements between the different stakeholders and collaborative solution formulas or new approaches must be developed like structured negotiation.Basque Country Universal Accessibility Strategy (Estrategia Vasca para la Accesibilidad Universal) p. 100
The Spanish edition of Structured Negotiation, a Winning Alternative to Lawsuits is available on the Amazon site in Spain here and on the US Amazon site here. The book is also on Bookshop in the US and on Amazon and other book sites in other countries.
