U.S. Federal Judge Rules for Walmart, against Blind Shoppers, in Self-checkout Kiosk Case

On October 12, 2021 a United States federal judge in Maryland ruled that Walmart does not have to make its self-check kiosks accessible to blind shoppers. This is a disappointing result in a case that started when a Walmart employee stole $40.00 from two blind shoppers while the employee was assisting them with the inaccessible self-check kiosk. Caremark Offers Talking Prescription Labels, Braille, Large Print

Congratulations CVS Health! Today the largest integrated pharmacy company in the United States announced that is now offering talking, braille and large print prescription labels through its mail service pharmacy, commonly known as Caremark. The labels are available to Individuals with vision impairments. This important health, safety and accessibility initiative was reached as a result of a collaboration with the American Council of the Blind and several blind Caremark members. Rite Aid Now Offers Talking Prescription Labels

Congratulations to Rite Aid! Today the company announced it is offering talking prescription labels at all of the company’s retail pharmacies in the United States. (Rite Aid currently operates more than 4,500 locations). Denny’s Digital Accessibility Settlement Agreement

Posted here is the company’s digital accessibility settlement agreement with the American Council of the Blind and blind Denny’s customer Lisa Irving. The agreement describes the company’s commitment to make its web and mobile content accessible and usable by all users, including those with disabilities. Denny’s is using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA as its web and mobile standard. This agreement was reached in Structured Negotiation; no lawsuit was filed or needed.
