ATM for the Blind Launched in Semarang

Jakarta, Indonesia (April 25, 2102) An audio-based ATM designed specifically for visually impaired people has been launched in Semarang, Central Java.

Devianto Setiorahardjo, a representative of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Indonesia for Central Java, said Tuesday that the machine, known as a “talking ATM”, is intended for visually impaired customers as well as customers who prefer audio guides, reported kompas.com.

He added that an employee could also assist customers with special needs.

“We are optimistic that this facility can help people with special needs to do their financial transactions independently,” he said.

Similar machines previously had been launched in Jakarta and Surabaya in East Java.

SCB Indonesia will also launch the machine in Bandung, West Java.

Customers of banks that joined the ATM Bersama network can also use the talking ATM.
